The goal of the Audio Engineering Program is to prepare our students for an entry level position in the varied fields of the audio industry and/or to enable them to transfer to a 4-year degree in a related field. We emphasize firsthand experiential training, while assuring students also understand audio theory and traditional musical concepts. Our curriculum produces a versatile professional, prepared to work in a variety of audio industry fields; to communicate with musicians in a recording studio or live sound environment; and to work in a non-musical audio field, such as broadcasting or corporate sound.
The Audio Engineering facilities at KCKCC include three state-of-the-art recording/mixing studios, a computer/MIDI lab, and live sound reinforcement equipment. Our facilities are open on evenings and weekends to allow students to work on school projects. The program faculty consists of active professionals in the recording and sound reinforcement industry.
Students frequently transfer to 4-year degree programs in related fields, and our students and alumni have won regional and national awards including those from the Audio Engineering Society, Downbeat Magazine, and the Grammys. Our students are employed both locally and nationally at live music venues, churches, and recording studios; with national and international touring shows; with music industry retailers; at television, radio stations, film and video production and post-production facilities around the country; telecommunications companies; and music business and administration companies. They have also created entrepreneurial companies that address the needs of niche markets in the audio industry.
