Phlebotomy Technician

A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and other health care professionals, to draw blood samples from patients using a variety of intrusive procedures.  Includes instruction in basic vascular anatomy and physiology, blood physiology, skin puncture techniques, venipuncture, venous specimen collection and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and applicable standards and regulations.

 

Requirements for Admission to the Program

  • Possess or are scheduled to earn a high school diploma or GED within the next 12 months
  • At least 17 years old
  • Prior to beginning clinical/practicum
    • Pass a criminal background check
    • Earn CPR and first aid certification through the American Heart Association
    • Show proof of immunization as required by the clinical/practicum site
  • Contact the program coordinator for program-specific advising
