READ 0091 - Introduction to College Reading Skills

Introduction to College Reading Skills is designed to provide students with opportunities to improve understanding of a variety of academic texts and develop reading comprehension strategies. This course focuses on vocabulary development, main idea/supporting detail recognition, and summarizing skills. This is the first class in a sequence of two reading classes. Completion of the course with a grade of “C” or better is required before enrolling in READ 0092 .

Pre-requisites: Assessment score of 40-59 on the Accuplacer Classic or 227-239 on the Accuplacer Next Generation for 16-233k sections. Assessment score of 233 on the Accuplacer Next Generation is required for enrollment in 8 week-section.
Notes: This course may be offered in a variety of formats, all of which require the use of instructional technology. Accelerated sections meet for 8 weeks. Blended learning sections require computer/internet access outside of class.
