ECED 0295 - Survey of Exceptionalities (T►) 3 Credit Hours
The Survey of Exceptionalities course provides an overview of populations (birth to 21) identified with exceptionalities with attention given to the causes and effects of these differences on the individual’s development and families in the context of language and culture. Emphasis is given to the historical context of disability, laws, and legal cases affecting the delivery of services to individuals with exceptionalities, and the principles of effective educational approaches for each exceptionality including early intervention and program services for those identified as gifted and talented. IDEA categories of exceptionality presented include low-incidence and high-incidence disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, behavior disorders, communication disorders, autism, traumatic brain injury, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, other health impairments, and multiple and severe disabilities).
