ECED 0140 - Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood


3 Credit Hours

The Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood course will provide an overview of fundamental methods of observing, documenting, and assessing children’s learning from 0 to age 8 in the context of cultural and developmental variations. Students will conduct formal and informal observations and assessments, guiding the development of curriculum and individualization for children. Students will create a professional report including formative and summative assessments, checklists, work samples, pictures, and interviews for preparation of teacher-parent conferences. This course requires students to observe a child in their environmental setting, a NAEYC-accredited program or licensed family, group, center, Head Start, faith-based, public, or private pre-k -grade-3 settings. Students must be prepared to observe for a minimum of 15 hours total.
