PMED 0227 - PARAMEDIC CONCEPTS I


8 Credit Hours

The didactic content of this course is designed to serve as a general framework for the implementation of the objectives of the paramedic curriculum. PMED0227 is the foundational course of the paramedic program. Introduction into paramedicine, EMS systems, roles and responsibilities of the Paramedic, safety and wellness, EMS research, Public Health and medical/legal aspects will be discussed from a legal, practical, and philosophical point of view. Didactic and practical components of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, life span considerations, patient assessment and diagnostic equipment, IV and medication administration, airway management and ventilation, communications and documentation, introduction to EKGs and patient simulation will be addressed.

Pre-requisites: BIOL 0143 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (T►) , or BIOL 0141 - Human Anatomy and Laboratory (T►)  along with BIOL 0271 - Physiology (T►) ; MATH 0104 - INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA (T►)  or Higher, Kansas state certification as an EMT and acceptance into the Kansas City Kansas Community College Paramedic Program.
