The Kansas City Kansas Community College Welding Technology program is in alignment with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP code 48.0508: Welding Technology/Welder. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.

Total Hours for a Welding Technology Certificate A Credit Hours: 20
Certificate B Requirements
- Completion of Certificate A Requirements 20 Credit Hours
- WELD 0140 - GTAW 3 Credit Hours
- WELD 0120 - SMAW 3 Credit Hours
- WELD 0220 - Advanced SMAW 4 Credit Hours
- WELD 0240 - Advanced GTAW 4 Credit Hours
- WELD 0245 - Metallurgy 2 Credit Hours
Electives - 4 credit hours Upon completion of Certificate B, the student will be eligible to obtain certification in Welding Technology Level 2, earning the following credentials
- Level 1 Requirements
- One additional position qualification
- Two additional processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW)
- Welding proficiecty equal to or exceeding (AWS) standard D1.1 on 3/8” thick carbon steel plate
